Two French men granted bail on illegal fishing

Two French nationals, Fontanet Silvere and Serge Antoine Jose Perez were arraigned in front of Magistrate Micallef Trigona on Saturday afternoon charged for illegal fishing in Maltese waters between the 11th and 12th June 2008.

The men said they were not guilty and were granted bail against a personal guarantee of €116,000 between the two. The case was deferred to 22nd July 2008.

Inspector James Grech led the prosecution.

In a separate case, 47-year-old Dionisio Borg from Hamrun was accused of fraud and misappropriation of €2,100 at the detriment of two persons. The accused admitted guilt and was set free under condition of Chapter 446 which states that he has to pay the victims within six months.

Inspector Ivan Cilia led the prosecution in this case.
