53 illegal immigrants brought ashore

Two groups of illegal immigrants were escorted to shore at Hay Wharf in Floriana by the Armed Forces of Malta in the night between Monday and Tuesday, the police said in a statement.

The immigrants arrived on two separate boats, one carrying 25 men and a woman and the other carrying 27 men.  The first group were brought ashore at around 2230CET whilst the second group at 0100CET.

Further investigations are underway.
