Jo Said, one of the controversial protagonists of the Malta general elections 2008, was arraigned in court on Wednesday morning accused of attempting to blackmail Nationalist MP David Agius.

At the beginning of the electoral campaign, in February, Said had gone public with statements about rampant corruption within the Nationalist Party claiming that his source was Nationalist MP Agius. He had stated that, in a private meeting in a cafe’, Agius had revealed to him the allegations of corruption.

Consequently, he had sent a number of emails to Agius calling on him to stand by his statements in public, something which Agius never did.

In the meantime, Said is now denying any attempts at blackmailing the MP by email.
