Five sentenced to one month imprisonment

Five men have been sentenced to a month in prison after being found guilty of entering Maltese territory without identification documentation or permission. Another is being held under preventive arrest after denying involvement in human trafficking.

The men were apprehended on Monday morning after their fishing boat was spotted by the Armed Forces of Malta who escorted them ashore in Wied il-Buni Birzebbugia.

The men who were sentenced to one month imprisonment are Hamed Hamis Nader, Nema Hamis Badux, Mohamed A A Ubusaneb, Subhi Atija Ranem Junis  and Mohamed F Al Fithjani.  The man accused of human trafficking is 30-year-old Abdul Salem Mohamed Ab Xlifa Selwa.
