Referring to a statement dating back to the 21st November 2007 with regards missing 51-year-old Rita Bugeja, the Police said on Friday that the woman was found and arrested in UK.

It was on the 19th November 2007 that Rita Bugeja’s family reported her to the police as missing. Ms Bugeja was on bail awaiting trial on the importation of around 5,000 ecstasy pills.

At the time it was suspected that she had fled from the Maltese Islands and consequently the Maltese Criminal Court issued a warrant for her arrest. An international arrest warrant was issued through Interpol. Joint efforts by the British police with the assistance of the Office of the Attorney General led to the arrest of Rita Bugeja.

Procedures were initated for Rita Bugeja to be returned back to Malta for the trial of her case.
