A 44-year French diving instructor was reported missing whilst performing a technical dive at Xlendi Bay in Gozo.

The diver was reported missing at around 1730CET on Thursday evening, the Armed Forces of Malta said.

Prohibitive weather conditions in the area have obliged a suspension of the search ongoing for him by AFM divers from 3rd Regiment's EOD section, as well as by Maritime Squadron's Search-and-Rescue launch Melita-1. An Air Wing helicopter was also provided to assist in the search operation , which went suspended at 2150CET on Thursday night as low light conditions enveloped the area.

The search resumed on Friday morning.
