Five persons, four of whom are Maltese, are assisting Police in investigations concerning the murder of a 25-year-old Russian woman reported Net News. The young woman’s corpse was lifted from the sea off the former Chalet outrock on the Sliema Promenade on Thursday.

Police have established that the woman visited Malta regularly and ad applied for a Visa. The Swieqi apartment in which she resided has also been located.

Police have also managed to establish that the woman was killed on the ground and subsequently thrown into the sea. However it is still unclear why the murder or murderers covered the Russian national’s head with a black bag.

On Saturday, Maltastar reported that the woman could have been involved in a prostitution circle. Thus the police are also working on the thesis that she could have been murdered by a “client”, Maltastar continued. It is believed that the woman has been in Malta for around a year. She could have also worked in Paceville.

The case is being considered as a highly sensitive one, with the Maltese Police cooperating with the Russian embassy.

An autopsy carried out on the woman’s body soon after she was retrieved showed that she bore strangulation marks around her neck and bruises to her face. Investigations are being led by Assistant Commissioner Emanuel Cassar and Inspectors Chistopher Pullicino, John Ellul and Daniel Zammit.
