Second illegal immigrant corpse recovered at sea

A second body belonging to an illegal immigrant was recovered by the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) on Sunday at around 0630 CET. The corpse was sighted about 110 nautical miles off Malta.

On Saturday, another corpse was retreived by the AFM and brought ashore at Haywharf, Floriana at around 12:50CEST.

A fisherman who sighted the corpse near the tuna-pens off Marsascala Bay informed the AFM's Operations’ Centre.  The illegal immigrant's corpse was later handed over to the Police.

The dead body was found four nautical miles off Marsascala’s bay.

Duty Magistrate Miriam Hayman was informed of the case and several experts were appointed to assist in the inquiry.

Further police investigations are ongoing.
