An Open Day was held at the Hal Far Appogg Open Centre on Saturday where the general public were shown round the newly-refurbished flatlets.
The renovation of the centre which currently hosts 160 aylum seekers but which can house up to 180 persons, was funded by the European Refugee Fund.
Asylum seekers residing at the Open Centre welcomed the general public with ethnic food and ethnic music from their country of origin.
The newly refurbished premises include kitchenettes, restroom facilities, a doctor’s clinic, counselling room and administration offices, as well as new paving outside.
Meanwhile, through EQUAL, another EU part-funded project which offers vocational, guidance and counselling services to facilitate integration into society and its labour market, Appogg also facilitated the training of a group of asylum seekers.
During the open day, a certificate of achievement was presented to 32 asylum seekers who successfully compiled their personal European Curriculum Vitae.
