A 44-year-old Maltese fisherman had to be medically evacuated from the fishing vessel Boubly  by a Malta-based Italian Air Force rescue-helicopter of the Italian Military Mission (MIATM) on Tuesday.

The Rescue Co-Ordination Center at  AFM Headquarters in Luqa Barracks received a call at around 0445CET informing them that one of the crew on board, Judas Caruana from Marsaxlokk had suffered a possible heart attack.

A helicopter was immediately dispatched to the location of the fishing vessel, about 50 nautical miles south west of Malta.

After being given medical attention aboard the fishing vessel, the casualty was winched back onto the helicopter and subsequently flown directly to St Luke's Hospital for further treatment.
