Man dies after vacant hotel roof collapses

A 40-year old man from Qormi lost his life as a vacant hotel's roof  collapsed at Jerma Palace in Wied il-Għajn at around 0940 CEST on Saturday.

Preliminary investigations revealed  that Saviour Cilia, a general practioner and  a father of three tragically lost his life while working inside the hotel on an internal ceiling that gave away.  

An ambulance, along with Police and Members of the Civil Protection Department were called on location.

The Medical Association of Malta (MAM) expressed its condolences with the family and relatives of the victim.

Duty Magistrate Dr D Clarke has nominated several experts to help her in the magisterial inquiry.

Police investigations are ongoing.
