Major fault causes extensive power outages

A major fault that occurred at Delimara Power Station on Thursday at around 1230 CET caused extensive power outages. Electricity supply in various localities were  effected, including B’Bugia, M’Xlokk, Zabbar Tarxien, Fgura in the south of the island whilst Swieqi, St. Julian’s,Sliema, San Gwann, Balzan, B’Kara and St. Venera were effected in the central area.

Enemalta engineers and duty personnel took immediate action and various localities from the central area were switched on by 1330 CET.  All other localities had their power restored by 1600 CET. 

An investigation is still being carried to locate the cause of the fault in order to be able to prevent similar incidents in the future.

While apologising for the outages, Enemalta reminded its customers that they can report faults and power interruptions on the following freephone number 80072224.  Enemalta Corporation regrets any inconvenience caused by this power interruption.
