Malta and Gozo were hit by heavy rain and thunderstorms during the night and in the morning flooding roads and creating disruptions in several localities.

The Civil Protection department urged caution advising people to stay inside wherever possible and to avoid the worst hit parts such as Msida and Birkirkara. No serious incidents were reported and the stormy weather is expected to be over by early afternoon.

Meanwhile, on Monday at 1505 CEST , a rescue vessel of the Armed Forces Maritime Squadron was dispatched to rescue a couple who were trapped in a cave whilst onboard their inlatabale dinghy. The cave was situated in the vicinity of Qala Quarry, in the limits of Qala in Gozo.

A team of 3 Regiment EOD divers rescued the couple, a male and a female in their late 50s and 40s respectively, and took them to safe seas until no further assistance was required.
