Fr Joe Vella-Gauci, the ex-archpriest of the Gozo Cathedral may challenge his removal a few weeks ago by Bishop Mario Grech in a formal appeal to the Vatican.

According to a report in The Malta Independent on Sunday, Fr Joe Vella-Gauci, has  sought the advice of foreign experts in Canon Law and may soon be submitting an appeal to the Vatican’ Segnatura.

Fr Vella-Gauci was advised that the way in which he was removed from his post is not in accordance to Canon Law and that he can therefore use Vatican channels to challenge the decision which has stirred controversy in the Gozitan capital.

Besides, Fr Vella –Gauci, six more archpriests or parish priests were removed by Bishop Grech. Unlike Fr Vella-Gauci, they all accepted the decision of the Bishop.
