A 25,000-tonne cargo ship which was stranded on a sandbank for almost 12 hours was refloated, the Scotsman News reported on Sunday.

The Maltese-registered vessel Ocean Light became stuck on Friday afternoon.

Five tugs managed to pull the ship free from the bank off Dumbarton Castle in the River Clyde after various attempts failed.

No one of the 23 people on board the Ocean Light, which was carrying animal feed, were injured.

The Ocean Light was taken to Great Harbour in Greenock to assess the damage and carry out any repairs.
