Foreigner dies engulfed by a wave in Gozo

A foreigner who had been taking pictures at Dwejra, Gozo died on Saturday afternoon at around 14:30CET when a big wave engulfed him.

The incident happened when the man, reported to be in his twenties, was taking pictures on the shore with his girlfriend, who is also a foreigner. He was hit by the wave and died on the rocks.

His girlfriend suffered slight injuries.

Members of the Civil Protection Department were called on site to recover the lifeless body from sea.

Duty Magistrate Dr Ellul ordered a magisterial enquiry on the case.

Police investigations continue.
