Fireworks factory explosion leaves one dead, another injured

Sixty-two-year-old Zaren Barbara from Zurrieq died in an explosion in the St. Catherine fireworks factory at Tal-Qortin area in Zurrieq sometime after noon on Thursday.

Meanwhile, 46-year-old Alfred Cassar, also from Zurrieq, was rushed to hospital. He is in danger of losing his life, the police said.

Dr Consuelo Scerri Herrera was informed about the incident.

The feast of St. Catherine is scheduled for November 25.

Last June five men died in an explosion at the St. Helen's fireworks factory in Birkirkara.
