Fifty-three-year old Jackie Pflug is travelling across the United States to talk about her ordeal during a plane hijack in November 1985 in Malta,
indystar.com reported.
Speaking during an event, Pflug described what it was like standing, with her hands around her back, at the threshold of the plane door and being shot in the head by a hijacker. She was thrown from the plane to the ground and left for dead.
The ordeal started when minutes after the Egypt Air flight left from Athens to Cairo, four Palestinians and one Egyptian took over the plane. After a shootout with three undercover air marshals, the plane landed in Malta
After the landing, the hijackers demanded fuel and passage to Libya. When the officials in Malta said no to the demands, the hijackers said they were going to start executing someone every 15 minutes, starting with the Israelis and then the Americans,
indystar reported Pflug as saying.
She and two other Americans had their hands bound and were placed in the front row of the plane. After the two other Americans were executed, Pflug sat for nearly four hours, and then was shot in the head.
She landed on the tarmac and was rescued more than five hours later by medics, who believed she was dead. In all, nearly 60 people died that day.
Indystar.com reported that Pflug now lives in Minneapolis with her second husband, Jim, and 10-year-old son Tanner. She has written the book "Miles to Go Before I Sleep." Due to her injuries, she has short-term memory loss and limited vision.
