Following the first phase of a consultation period with over sixty organizations which ended last week, Minister Austin Gatt on Friday presented the Government’s revised initiatives for the Grand Harbour area.

The consultation period confirmed the need for a Master Plan for internal transport within the Grand Harbour zone as well as transport that connects the Harbour with other localities, Minister Gatt said. The need was also felt that the project integrates historical buildings around the zone and guarantees free access to such buildings.

Minister Gatt said that the government welcomed the consultation suggestions for more facilities within different parts of the Harbour, that is Kalkara, Cospicua, Senglea, Marsa and Valletta.

Another suggestion which the government will be taking into consideration is that the proposed coastal walk does not interfere with existent elements, public access to Herbert Ganado garden be maintained and that the coal quay should be organized to allow for expansion of the sector.

Meanwhile, the breakwater bridge will be restored to its original state to reflect the Grand Harbour’s history, Minister Gatt concluded.

Other projects which were originally planned for can be found here

The government will be accepting reactions to its proposed vision until December.
