The Archbishop was speaking in the presence of Australian Ambassador Mr. Jurek Juszczyk, and delegations from the Emigrants Commission, the Maltese-Australian Association and the Friends of Australian Association during a visit to the high Australian Commission in Malta on Wednesday.

The Archbishop sent his regards to Australian emigrants, especially those who upheld unity with citizens residing in the Maltese Islands. He extended his regards to all clergy members and laics in Australia helping the Maltese community to live its faith.  

Mgr. Paul Cremona said that he admired emigrants because they were prepared to leave their home country and loved ones behind to work and tend to the needs of their own families. “I admire emigrants because they love their families. Some of the men emigrated alone, initially to work and send over their profits to their families and eventually to pave the way for their families’ arrival there. I admire emigrants because they kept strong ties with their loved ones – their parents, their relatives, their country. I also admire them because they retained their faith and strengthened the local church. With their behaviour they made both themselves and their country proud,” explained the Archbishop.  

“In my first message as Archbishop of Malta I want to express the strong ties I feel with Maltese emigrants in Australia as well as in other countries,” continued Mgr. Pawl Cremona.  

Mgr. Paul Cremona also expressed his wishes to follow in the footsteps of his predecessors Mgr. Micheal Gonzi and Mgr. Joseph  Mercieca by visiting Australia some time.
