Friday's maximum temperature of 31.3°C at Balzan was the highest maximum temperature for April ever since temperature records began at Balzan 20 years ago in 1988, reported www.maltaweather.com.
The previous hottest April day was on 30th April 1999 when the maximum temperature had gone up to 29.4°C. Friday's maximum temperature has beaten the one registered 9 years ago by 1.9°C!
This week’s hot temperatures, which were forecast correctly by Malta Weather Services last week, were due to very warm air over northern Africa making its way up to the central Mediterranean due to moderate southerly winds blowing from the Sahara Desert.
As from Saturday, however, the winds will be from a much cooler north-westerly direction, and therefore maximum temperatures will go down substantially tomorrow to around 22°C. From Sunday and throughout most of next week, maximum temperatures will be a much cooler 18°C to 19°C or so.
Malta Weather Services provides accurate weather forecasts for Malta on its website www.maltaweather.com. Malta Weather Services also provides its clients with 3-month weather forecasts, 15-day weather forecasts and weather warnings by SMS.
