A 27-year old male from Swieqi was rescued by members of the Armed Forces of Malta's (AFM) Air Wing on Saturday afternoon. The injured man was airlifted to hospital for further urgent treatment following his fall into Wied id-Dis, limits of Madliena.

The man had fallen in the immediate area beneath a three-storey high bridge. It transpires that his fall was luckily broken by some large prickly-pear bush fronds on a slope beneath the bridge.

Civil Protection Department's rescuers, who were first on site, requested the casualty's airlift at around 14:45CET to Mater Dei Hospital.

An Emergency Medical Team was also present on site to apply immediate trauma care whilst Police Mobile Squad personnel conducted on scene investigations.
