The Commissioner for Children, Carmen Zammit, has expressed her concern over the government’s decision to re-house the residents of the Lourdes Home in Gozo.

Ms Zammit feels that government has not paid serious attention to proposals she had made advising against the re-housing for fear of enhancing the children’s traumas, the Times has revealed.

The Commissioner was also concerned that Gozo will now end up with no care institutions for children with problem backgrounds.

The Commissioner has stated that her office’s relevance to social policies is thus being compromised as is that of other public bodies and voluntary organisations, the Times said.

The Commissioner is urging authorities to provide immediate professional support to the children being re-located.
