There is currently an online petition unlike most other online petitions. It is the “Stop this Nonsense and give us our exam results!” petition circulating on Facebook and it is being endorsed by scores of people by the minute.

It is also the first major petition ever to resort to the popular networking site where, unlike the customary personal details and signature, the petition is “signed” by endorsing it with one’s personal profile as a member of the group.

When the group reaches a 1,000 members it will be presented to MUT and UMASA and the 1,000 target seems to be rather close as the petition has reached over 815 members in just three days.

The petition is calling on the Malta Union of Teachers and the University of Malta Academic Staff Association to end their current trade dispute with the University of Malta as it is unfairly using students’ result to enhance leverage on their cause.

The petition is also asking the Rector of the University, the Minister of Education and the Government to refuse to negotiate until the exam results are released.

Over the weekend the Kunsill Studenti Universitarji also expressed its disapproval over the directive issued by the UMASA and MUT telling staff  not to publish examination results until further notice. KSU has also warned that the directive could result in a breach of the Students’ Rights Charter.
