A 48-year-old driver from Mosta and a 41-year-old man from Marsa are in danger of losing their lives after they were involved in a head-on collision, the Police said in a statement.

The accident occurred early on Sunday morning in Durumblat Street, Mosta. The police were informed of the incident at around 02:30CET.

The two vehicles involved in the accident were being driven in opposite directions when for some reason they crashed into each other head-on. The Mosta man who was driving the car had to be helped out of the vehicle by members from the Civil Protection Department and was rushed to Mater Dei Hospital as he was suffering grievous injuries and was in danger of dying.

The Marsa man who was a passenger in the other car was also taken to hospital where he was certified to be in a critical condition.

Both vehicles were extensively damaged.

Duty Magistrate Dr Giovanni Grixti was informed of the case and several experts were appointed to assist in the inquiry.

Further police investigations are underway.
