Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna (FWA) has been entrusted to restore prestige to St Thomas Tower in Marsascala which up until recently was been used as a store.

FWA will restore the tower with the aim of opening it to the public and possibly generate touristic interest.

The Tower was built in 1614 by the Grandmaster Wignacourt and it is traditionally believed that it had originally been designed by the son of the renowned architect Glormu Cassar, Vittorio Cassar. This is probably incorrect and that the site was designed by Girolamo Bonnici.

Parliamentary secretary Jason Azzopardi who signed the deed with FWA congratulated the association for all the good work it does and appealed to the general public to support it.
