The Central Bank of Malta has issued a collector coin in a gold and silver version with the theme “Auberge de Castille”.

The obverse of the coins shows the Emblem of Malta with the year of issue 2008. The reverse side depicts the porch of the Auberge de Castille and the ‘Europa Star’. These coins are being issued under the Europa Programme 2008 with the theme ‘Cultural Heritage’, and the 'Europa Star' on the reverse of the coin is the official logo of this programme.

These are the first Maltese collector coins denominated in euro and were minted at the Royal Dutch Mint. The gold coin is selling at €185 (inclusive of VAT) with a face value of €50. It weighs 6.5g with a diameter of 21mm, and the edition is limited to 3,000 issues. The silver coin weighs 28.28g with a 30.61mm diameter, is selling at €38 (VAT included) and has a face value of €10. The edition-limit is 18,000.
