Eight people were discovered hiding inside the Lifecycle truck by Moroccan police during an inspection before the Lifecycle group was due to board a ferry to Spain on Tuesday night.

Following the end of the Lifecycle challenge on Sunday, the support team started its journey back to Malta on three campers and a closed truck carrying equipment.

It is thought the would-be migrants boarded the truck when the drivers stopped for refreshments. They tried to run away but were held by the police. The Moroccan police also briefly took away the passports of the Maltese team on the truck, but this has now been resolved.

The Lifecycle team cycled from Lourdes in France to Casablanca in Morocco to raise funds for the Renal Unit at Mater Dei Hospital. They are due back on Sunday.
