The competition is a practical cookery test called a mystery box challenge.

Mr Buttigieg is the only Maltese chef participating in this event which will be held at the Sheik Rashid Hall of the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Mr Buttigieg was declared winner of the Junior Chef of the Year 2007 in the ‘Malta Kulinarja’ Cookery and Culinary Arts Championships late last year.  His entry, consisting of the preparation of a three course meal for four in two hours, was judged by a panel of eight international judges from the UK, Holland, Germany, Italy and Cyprus assisted by Maltese judges. Following this achievement, Mr Guido Debono, chairman of the Malta Cookery and Food Association, selected him for this worldwide competition.

Victor Borg, Executive Chef for Hotel Phoenicia said: “Adrian has great potential and we are proud to have him as part of the brigade.  The recruitment of people like Adrian is a testimonial of the customer service Hotel Phoenicia invests in, and of the belief that our employees are our greatest asset,” he continued.
