Morena has refused two “substantial” sponsorship offers from international vodka companies on the basis that her song Vodka was not promoting drinking, The Sunday Times revealed. The Maltese Eurovision contestant said that “the last thing I want to do is promote alcohol. I do not drink.”

Commenting on this development, MaltaMedia founder and Creative Director, Dr Toni Sant said “It's sad to see the Maltese entry taking itself so seriously yet again. This is especially troublesome in a year when a number of countries are sending a self-depricating entry. Spain, Bosnia and Ireland are excellent examples of this. This may very well turn out to be the year when the Eurovision is won by an act that declares that the contest is just a farce after all.”

Bosnia’s ambassador in this year’s contest, Laka, has already stated that he thinks that the Eurovision is pathetic which does not mean that he is settling for any compromises just for the sake of the contest and he stated that he will keep doing what he usually does.

The sponsorship was a mix of money, promotion and payment for the song's video according to Morena which, inviting as it may be, had to be refused as it contrasted with the singer’s principles.

In semi-finals to be held on May 22nd, Morena, together with the four male Swedish singers who shall be accompanying her on stage, will try to garner enough votes to make it to the finals on May 24th.
