Lyrical concert to feature Lydia Caruana

NnG Promotions will be presenting another concert featuring Lydia Caruana alongside Peter Berger and Jan Curco. For the concert, Mro Charles Olivieri-Munroe will be directing the National Philharmonic Orchestra.
The concert will take place on May 25, 2008 at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta.
Lydia Caruana made her debut in opera in 1995 as Musetta opposite Cecilia Gasdia’s Mimi at Teatru Manoel and has since risen to become one of the best singers on the local scene. She has features in various operatic roles including Norina (Don Pasquale), Angelica (Suor Angelica)and Elvira (Don Giovanni) as well as two remarkable appearances with Andrea Boccelli, in 2006, and with the great Jose Carreras in June 2007.
Jan Durco was born in Trenčin, Slovakia and studied at the Academy of Music and Dramatic Art in Bratislava and since 1986 has been a soloist at the Opera of the Slovak National Theatre, Bratislava.
He has played many roles including Dandini in La Cenerentola. His repertory includes a wide range of oratorios, cantatas and songs.
Peter Berger studied singing at the conservatory in Košice (Slovak Republic) with Juraj Šomorjai and has appeared on the opera stages in the Czech and Slovak Republic as Nemorino (L’elsir d’Amore), Faust (Faust), Prince (Rusalka), Alfredo (La Traviata) Vašek (The Bartered Bride), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni) and Ernesto (Don Pasquale).
Charles Olivieri-Munroe is increasingly hailed in the international press for his innovative programming, interpretation of Slavic repertoire and his passion for purity of orchestral sound.
He has recently celebrated his 10th anniversary season as Chief Conductor with the North Czech Philharmonic in Teplice.
From 1992-94 he served as Permanent Conductor with the Brno Chamber Opera where he led such diverse productions as Handel’s Acis and Galatea and Czech composer Ilya Hurnik’s Diogenes. This season he makes his conducting debut in Milan conducting Mozart’s Don Giovanni and at the Prague National Opera leading Dvorak’s Stabat Mater.
Booking for the concert is now open to the public from Mediterranean Conference Centre as follows: Mondays to Fridays: 10am to 1pm and 5pm to 7pm; Saturdays: 10am to 1pm only.
