Philip Kirkorov who represented Russian in Eurovision 1995 and who has written this year’s Eurovision entry for Ukraine’s Ani Lorak has stated that he wants to write a song for Maltese singer Chiara. This collaboration will be her entry for Eurovision 2009 according to OGAE Malta Club.

Chiara was Malta’s representative at the Eurovision song contest in 1998, placing third, and in 2005, placing second.

In the meantime, amidst gross speculation even at this early stage, journalists are already sounding Eurovision observers for predictions for this year’s winners.

On Sunday evening, Malta’s national television station, TVM, featured a full four minutes about Morena’s participation in the Eurovision 2008 contest during their primetime news and stated that Vodka is not being ranked amongst the favourites.

MaltaMedia’s Creative Director, Dr Toni Sant, currently following the Eurovision 2008 proceedings from Belgrade was today quoted by Belgian paper “Het Nieuswblad” sayin that “There are several unusual or novelty acts at this year's contest. Ireland's Dustin the Turkey, Spain's Baila El Chiki Chiki by Rodolfo Chikilicuatre, and Belgium's Ishtar with O Julissi in a non-existing language immediately spring to mind. One of these songs will do well in this year's final and it's possible that an unusual act or song wins the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest.”

As part of the promotional push for Morena’s Vodka, the Maltasong Board will co-host a party with Bulgaria and Belarus at the specially assembled Euro Club in the centre of Belgrade on Monday evening.

In the meantime, reports of a possible photoshoot featuring Morena in the nude in the tabloid Alo! have only led to false expectations as the singer was modestly covered with undergarments and a flag. The reports had initially put Malta and other countries in the limelight but were completely dismissed later on by sections of the media and by Morena herself.

Morena told TVM that “the Maltese and Gozitan public can put their mind at rest” that she will not be posing naked. So, rest now all ye worried minds!

MaltaMedia News will continue to provide direct news coverage from Belgrade throughout this week.
