On the eve of the first of two semifinal rounds at the Eurovision Song Contest 2008,
Malta's overall placement, calculated through an average of odds
offered on 22 betting websites, fell to a staggering 31st position from 43 over-all participants. Malta's song
Vodka is now ten places lower than Fabrizio Faniello's
I Do was at this time two years ago in Athens.
The Russian entry, Dima Bilan's
Believe, holds the best odds for the top position from all betting websites. This is a position it has held solidly for the last few days. Dima Bilan (photo left) returns to the Eurovision Song Contest in an attempt to capture the first place, which was taken from him in 2006 by Finland's Lordi and their phenomenal win with Hard Rock Hallelujah.
At the time the music video for
Vodka was first released, Malta's overall odds moved up to 16th place. Most of the rest of the time before last week, it hovered around 20th
place.
The Maltese
delegation in Belgrade will co-host a party with Bulgaria and Belarus at
the specially assembled Euro Club on Monday
evening.
The Maltese team
will return to the Belgrade Arena for final rehearsals on Wednesday
morning, as the Belgrade Arena will be fully occupied with a final dress
rehearsal and the first semifinal round on Tuesday.
