After failing to qualify from Thursday's Eurovision Song Contest semifinal, Malta is absent from the final for the second consecutive year.  This is the country's third major Eurovision disappointment since 2006.

Morena's failure to qualify from the semifinal round on Thursday has been received with mixed reactions by Maltese Eurovision fans and pundits. Throughout Friday, her official blog remained silent and no public comments were published. Morena's blog was last updated on Tuesday. By contrast, numerous other mixed public comments appeared on other blogs and even mainstream newspaper websites.

During various interviews on Friday the Maltese delegation insisted that they did their best and can't imagine what went wrong. The singer added that if she were to be given a second chance she wouldn't change anything.

Counter reactions from other Maltese singers, fans and critics included calls for a rethink about the type of songs Malta selects for this contest, as well as the customary calls for an outright withdrawal from the contest.

The 53nd edition of the Eurovision Song Contest started at 2100 CEST from the Belgrade Arena in Belgrade, Serbia. After televoting from all 43 participating countries, Russia's Dima Bilan singing  Believe won with 272 points. This is the first time that the Eurovision Song Contest has been won by Russia.
