MCAST students demonstrate against staff dispute

MCAST students from various institutes have come together to demonstrate against the industrial dispute between the college administration and academic staff represented by the Malta Union of Teachers.

The students are suffering from neglect as teachers refuse to do anything but deliver lectures. No assignments are being given or corrected and no attendance records are being kept amongst other things.

Man, 28, accused of stealing computer and cash

On Friday morning, Jason Gatt, 28, from Paola pleaded not guilty to stealing a computer and cash from a house in Paola.

The man pleaded not guilty to stealing a computer worth €908 (Lm389.80) together with a monitor, keyboard and a cash box containing €600 (Lm257.80).

German man reported missing

Ernest Alfred Schomburg, 46, of German nationality has been reported missing, the police said in a statement of Friday afternoon.

Schomburg is 5 feet 9 inches tall and wears short hair.

Visible trade gap widens by €9.5 million in March

Preliminary figures published by the National Statistics Office on Friday show that the visible trade gap widened by €9.5 million in March 2008 when compared to March 2007.

Provisional data for international trade show that the visible trade gap in March 2008 stood at €87.2 million, up by €9.5 million from the same month last year. There was a decrease in both imports and exports of €22.7 million and €32.2 million respectively.

20-year-old critical after car crash in Gzira

A 20-year-old man is in danger of losing his life after a traffic accident in the early hours of Friday morning, the police said.

The incident happened in Mikelang Vassallo Street, Gzira, at around 0300CET on Friday and the man was a passenger in a Ford Fiesta driven by a 19-year-old man who only suffered slight injuries.  Both are from Mosta.
