In the programme for the new season just launched by the Teatru Manoel, the national theatre will be working with artists from Malta, UK, South Africa, Portugal, Italy, Austria and China in a diverse and exciting season. Highlights include the continuation of the Children’s Theatre Programme, several plays in Maltese, the traditional BOV Opera Festival, Christmas Pantomime and much more!
Teatru Manoel will open with a concert by Armed Forces of Malta Band on September 28, promising an enjoyable evening filled with a wide repertoire ranging from military marches to classical and popular music. The theatre will be giving out a limited number of complimentary tickets for this event – first come first served!
Armed Forces of Malta Band’s concert will be followed by another concert by a world-famous Fado singer Cristina Branco on September 30 and a dance performance by international Bharata Natyam soloist Mavin Khoo on October 9.
The theatre will continue the highly successful Children’s Theatre Programme: this year the young and young at heart will be entertained by the The Riverside Theatre Company from South Africa (Emperor’s New Clothes) and by local performers in Sergei Prokofiev’s all time children favourite Peter and the Wolf. Teatru Manoel is also proud to showcase the local talent in numerous plays in Maltese, including original plays by Trevor Zahra, Joe Friggieri, Joseph Vella Bondin and Mario Philip Azzopardi.
The opera lovers are in for a treat in March when the theatre hosts the annual Bank of Valletta Opera Festival with performers from Teatro Borgatti di Cento and Opera Laboratorio from Italy and I Fagiolini from the UK. Other traditional popular productions include Teatru Unplugged (10th edition) and Christmas Pantomime to add sparkle and dazzle to the festive season.
