Actress Gemma Portelli passes away on Thursday

Actress Gemma Portelli has passed away on Thursday night. Portelli is a veteran of Maltese theatre, radio and television dramas and was, until very recently, still active.
She was a popular and talented actress who is best known for her humorous roles in numerous Maltese sketches and comedies on radio and television. As a broadcaster she began her career in 1957 when she joined Charles Clews and Johnny Catania in the fondly remembered Radio Muskettieri radio-play on Rediffusion.
Other comic productions include the comedy series Fuq Tlieta Toqgħod il-Borma. Ġemma Portelli also gained widespread popularity among the Maltese Community in Australia whom she visited on a number of occasions.
For many, Portelli was best known for her role as Goma in F'Baħar Wieħed, a Television Malta series broadcast in the 1970s.
Her death was announced on PBS on Friday morning.
