Malta is mentioned as one
of several popular destinations for Italians who seek low cost cosmetic surgery
in foreign countries, according to a report in top Italian newspaper Corriere
della Sera.
The article, penned by Margherita De Bac, focuses on new marketing
trends in the medical world such as last minute surgery which allows individuals
to replace other patients who cancel at short notice.
Other trends include day
surgeries and reduced cost surgery packages abroad in Malta, Tunisia,
Montenegro, Brasil,
Panama and Poland.
The article says that cosmetic surgery
in these countries may cost less than half the price paid in Italian hospitals.
A typical face lifting surgery may cost 2,6oo euro as opposed to over 6,000
euro in Italy.
Italians may also typically save up to 1,500 euro if they go abroad for
liposuction surgery or 1,200 euro for eye correction surgery.
De Bac writes that there is growing
concern among Italian medics who claim that such last minute or low cost
options may compromise the quality of the treatment that is standard fare in
top Italian hospitals despite prices that may seem prohibitive for a section of
the population.
According to the report, medics insist
on the importance of good and steady preparation for surgical treatments and
that prospective patients should be wary of new marketing techniques that are
used to attract patients who want to cut their costs.
