Printing exhibition open in Rhodes

The first ever Mediterranean Triennale of Printing has been launched on the island of Rhodes on the 27 August. This important event took place at the Museum of Modern Art under the auspices of the Ministry for Culture and Mayor of Rhodes.
Greece is presenting 20 artists in a separate exhibition being held at the Municipal Gallery situated in the medieval town's Symi Square, featuring more than 100 works. Greece is honoring printmakers Tania Nikolaidi as well as Valias Semertzidis.
The tribute includes the founders of Greek printmaking such as Dimitris Galanis, Angelos Theodoropoulos, Yiannis Kefallinos, Lykourgos Kogevinas and Nikos Ventouras as well as works by major artists including Giorgos Velissaridis, Dimitris Yiannoukakis, Costas Grammatopoulos and others.
For this first Triennale, twelve countries are participating, Albania, Croatia, Cyprus, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Lebanon, Malta, Morocco, Slovenia and Spain. Luciano Micallef is representing Malta with two portraits employing the technique of etching and aquatint. He attended the three day programme together with artists and diplomats that included Dr Richard Vella Laurenti, Malta's ambassador in Greece.
Various guest as well as the artists were invited to participate in the three day programme, encouraging the artists to share their experiences and knowledge in the art of printmaking. The exhibition is open to the public until November.
