'More Four Play' at the Manoel

The plays and musical numbers will be played at break-neck speed by just four actors. But these are not just any old actors... MADC has roped in four of the island's leading comics to pull off this festival of laughs - Alan Montanaro, Isabel Warrington, Louiselle Vassallo and newcomer (to the troupe) Alan Paris.

The sketches have been devised by Alan Montanaro, James Calvert, Nanette Brimmer Malcolm Galea with a couple of British comedy classics thrown in for good measure.

Educative martial art course on TV

For the first time in Malta an educative martial art course will be screened on local Television. “Jien qed nitghallem l-Aikido” is a series of eight half an hour lessons that demonstrate the classical martial of Aikido from basics to complicated defences from multiple attacks.

Aikido is a Japanese martial art that encompasses mainly self defence, meditation and weaponry study.

Masquerade holding drama courses for 11th year

This October Masquerade Theatre Arts School will be opening its doors for the eleventh year.

This is a particularly special year for Masquerade as work on the school's new premises is well in progress. Works on the building in Msida started earlier this year and the stone-work is now up to street level.

New programme announced for Teatru Manoel

In a press conference the minister also spoke about the discussions regarding the merger between Teatru Manoel and the Mediterranean Conference Centre.

Third edition of the Qala International Folk Festival

The Qala Local Council together with the Menhir Qala Folk Group, are again organising another edition of this folkloristic festival. This is going to be held in Qala between the 25th and 28th September 2008, with participation in another two localities in Malta.

Details regarding this year’s edition were given during a press conference held at the Ministry for Gozo by Minister for Gozo Giovanna Debono together with Qala Mayor, Paul Buttigieg and other members of the organising committee.

Printing exhibition open in Rhodes

The first ever Mediterranean Triennale of Printing has been launched on the island of Rhodes on the 27 August. This important event took place at the Museum of Modern Art under the auspices of the Ministry for Culture and Mayor of Rhodes.

Greece is presenting 20 artists in a separate exhibition being held at the Municipal Gallery situated in the medieval town's Symi Square, featuring more than 100 works. Greece is honoring printmakers Tania Nikolaidi as well as Valias Semertzidis. Luciano Micallef is representing Malta with two portraits employing the technique of etching and aquatint.
