National coach selects U18 Basketball team

Basketball's National coach Bruno Di Pietrantonio made his final selection for the Under 18 Men National team who will be participating in the FIBA European Championship between 16th and 21st July in Wales.

The selected players are: Andrew Aquilina, Michael Arena, Luke Camilleri, Clint Cassar, Samuel Deguara, Gavin Muscat, Mike Portera, Nigel Sultana, Isaac Tanti, Stefan Vella, Billy Zammit. The MBA contingent will be led by General Secretary Frank Camilleri and Assistant coach Norbert Borg.

This will be the sixth edition of this championship by FIBA, three of which were organised in Malta. Malta classified in fourth place in 2005, the best placing obtained till now.

The FIBA recently introduced a new system for the first round. Nine teams will be divided in three groups, with three teams per group. The winners of the group will then play in the medals zone.

Malta features in Group C together with Scotland and Monaco. First game for the National Team will be on the 16th July against Monaco and then on the 18th July plays against Scotland. The placing games then will be played between the 19th and 21st July.
