At a Council Meeting held on Tuesday 25th March, Martin Galea was unanimously co opted as acting President of the Malta Rugby Football Union until the forthcoming annual general meeting in September.

Mr Galea was the first president of the Rugby Association of Malta (RAM) when it was officially founded in 1991.

The MRFU is pleased that there has been a smooth transition of the presidency in such a short time span and therefore continuity is now guaranteed for the coming weeks and months. We take this opportunity to wish Mr Galea a successful second term as president so that rugby in Malta can continue to grow.

On his appointment Mr Galea said that he was very pleased to be associated with rugby, having been a player and official for many years in the past. He was greatly impressed with the way the sport has developed over the years both on the international front but also at club level and the recent gains made involving youth. He thanked the outgoing president for all the good work he had done and said that he would continue to build on what has been done to date for the good of the sport.

The council would also like to thank Mr David Smith for taking on the temporary role of acting president over the past week. Mr Smith will now return to his previous role as Vice President.
