Volleyball: Malta win 3-1 against Iceland

Malta clenched a 3-1 victory against Iceland at the Cottonera Sports Complex in which is the first victory of the locals in the European Championships.

A nervous Malta squad faced San Marino and lost in three straight sets. It was a totally different story when an extremely motivated Malta beat Iceland 3-1. Malta took the first set 25-20, but lost the second set 21-25. The Maltese recovered well with powerful spikes by Carmen Gauci and Alison Borg Hayman and won this set 25-23 after trailing for most of this set. The final set was totally in the Maltese favour and close the set and the game 25-17.

Malta meet Cyprus in the final match of thetournament on Sunday.
