The Basketball women's national team will
participate in the Women FIBA Europe Division C Championship between the 7th and
12th July, 2008, in Luxembourg.
Luxembourg, this year's European Championship Women Division C hosts will celebrate
the Luxembourg Basketball Federation's (FLBB) 75th anniversary. The
tournament will take place at the Coque Gymnase, a modern arena in Luxembourg City with a
high-quality wooden floor and a 1,500 capacity.
Albania, Andorra, Azerbaijan, Gibraltar,
Malta, Scotland, Wales
and hosts Luxembourg
will play in two qualifying round groups, before the semi-finals on Friday,
July 11 and the finals on Saturday, July 12.
Malta’s national coach Santino Coppa together with coach Sandro Farrugia called
up the following players: Rebecca Brincat Thoresen, Joselle Cardona, Loretta
Ellul, Caroline Fenech, Josephine Grima, Christina Grima, Kirsten Micallef, Doreen
Micallef, Leanne Sciberras, Amanda Sciortino, Beverlee Zammit.
Malta was drawn in
Group B together with Scotland,
Albania and Wales.

07-07-2008 – Malta vs Albania
08-07-2008 – Malta vs Scotland
09-07-2008 – Malta vs Wales
Semi-finals
and finals will be played on the 11th and 12th July. The
team will be accompanied by Mr. Frank Camilleri Secretary General of the MBA
who will also participate in a Board meeting of the FIBA Europe small countries
commission.
Malta has always
obtained positive results in this competition; the best one being in 2004 when
a third place was obtained which granted the Maltese National Team the
participation in the Commonwealth Games.
