Over the past two weeks the Marsa Cricket Club
played against two touring teams, against Skegness Grammar School
and Leyland Cricket Club.
In the first game against Skegness, Marsa
won the toss and elected to bat. Sarfraz Ali opened the batting and was run out
on twenty three runs while Alan Kyle scored Fifty runs not out and Nowell
Khosla scored sixty two runs not out in a total of 156 runs from the twenty
overs allocated. J.Walker was the only wicket taker for Skegness.
Walker was also the main run maker with fifty runs in a total of 112 from
their twenty overs. For Marsa Nowell Khosla was the main wicket taker with two
wickets. Marsa go one up in the series.
In the second game Marsa again batted first
this time only scoring 132 runs with Ronnie Sacco top scoring with seventy four
runs including eleven fours. Stevenson
was the main wicket taker with two for the visitors. In reply Skegness
totaled 123 runs from their overs. Sarfraz Ali taking three wickets while
Marilyn Camilleri took two wickets. For Skegness Norton was the top scorer with
fifty six runs. Marsa go two up in the series.
In the third game Marsa batted first again.
The Marsa team totaled 234 runs from the forty overs allocated.Tim Edwards top
scoring with 74 runs for the local team. Fishwick was the main wicket taker for
Skegness with two wickets. The Marsa bowlers managed to bowl out Skegness for
145 runs with Gordon Hewitt leading the attack with a hat trick.
Marsa win Series three to nil.
The first game against Leyland,
the visitors batted first and scored 255 runs with Dave Makinson top scoring
with fifty four runs. Sarfraz Ali was the main wicket taker with four wickets
for the Marsa team. Marsa’s reply was well below par and were bowled out for 64
runs with C.Kelly being the main wicket taker with three wickets. Leyland go one up in the series.
In the second game Marsa batted first and
totaled 222 runs. Sam Dhandapani top scoring with forty nine runs while Mark
G.Sacco retired on forty five runs. For Leyland Dave Makinson and Alan
Richardson both took two wickets each. In reply Leyland
chased down the runs and won the game in the thirty sixth over with R.Miller
fifty four runs not out and A.Miller fifty runs not out. Leyland
go two up in the series.
In the third game Leyland
batted first and totaled 135 runs from the twenty overs allocated. Andrew
Makinson top scoring with fifty runs. Four bowlers took two wickets each for
Marsa. The Marsa team were in with a shout but the batsmen were not able to
keep up with the run rate and could only manage 106 runs. Joy Ghoseroy top
scoring with thirty seven runs. Leyland win
the series three to nil.
In the opening games of the Globalair
Summer League, Marsa CC will play against Melita CC at 11.30CET, while in the
second match Krishna CC will face Overseas CC at 15:00CET on Saturday
