Swimmer Madeleine Scerri set a new national record in the Women's 100m freestyle after winning Heat 1 in 57.97 seconds.

She placed first ahead of Elena Popovska (FYR Macedonia) and Olga Hachatryan (Turkmenistan).

However Scerri's time was 45th overall and therefore she was eliminated.
