After that all four teams have played three matches in the Globalair
summer league,
Marsa C.C. are leading the table with 17 points, one point
ahead of Krishna C.C.
In the first match between Melita C.C had the upper hand against
Krishna C.C. Melita batted first with
Andy Lenard top scoring with fifty seven runs not out. Frank Spiteri scored
forty five runs before being caught. Melita totaled 129 runs, the first team to
earn a bonus point for the batting. Alan Kyle was the main wicket taker with
two. Krishna C.C replied strongly
through Nowell Khosla who scores fifty six not out. Sam Dhandapani scored
sixteen runs, Alan Kyle fourteen runs.and twenty one extras helped their cause
and were able to topple the 129 runs.
In the second game Marsa C.C played Overseas C.C. Overseas batted first and were bowled out for
88 runs. Dax Fernandes top scoring with twenty six runs and Colin Willis making
twenty runs. For Marsa Ronnie Sacco was
the main wicket taker with five wickets and Dave Newton took four.
In an outstanding bowling display from Dax Fernandes the
Marsa team were bowled out for 66 runs
with Ronnie Sacco top scoring with twenty five runs. This was the first time
that Overseas have beaten a Marsa team since they first started playing in the
summer league.
Marsa played against Krishna on
Saturday. Marsa batted first and totaled 113 runs with Mike Caruana top scoring
with thirty four runs. Ronnie Sacco scored twenty three runs. Sam Dhandapani
was the main wicket taker for Krishna with two.
The Krishna side seemed to be
cruising to victory when a flurry of wickets fell and was left up to Alan Kyle who top scored
with thirty two runs. Once he was bowled the Marsa team were able to control
and bowl out the rest of the Krishna team. Nowell Khosla
opening the batting scored a valuable thirty runs before he was run out. Mike
Caruana and Dave Newton were the top wicket takers for Marsa with three wickets
each. Marsa win.
In the second game Melita obtained their first win agianst Overseas. Overseas were bowled out for 44 runs. Four bowlers, Martin
Llewelyn,Andy Lenard, Stephen Blythe and Gordon Hewitt all took two wickets
each.
Frank Spiteri opened the batting and scored thirty four runs
not out from seventeen balls including seven fours, while his partner Andy
Lenard scored eight runs not out.
