In the first match of the Globair Summer League, the leaders of the competition Marsa C.C. played against Krishna C.C. on Saturday. Krishna
won the toss and elected to bat. Sam Dhandapani top scored with thirty two
runs, Malcolm Crab scored twenty eight runs and Nowell Khosla twenty three runs
being the main scorers from a total of 126 runs from their alotted overs. Mike
Caruana was the main wicket taker with three for the Marsa side. The Marsa
reply had a huge shock when Chris Naudi was bowled on the first ball of
the innings of an inside edge of his bat. Mark G Sacco was bowled in the very
next over and Marsa were struggling at two wickets for four runs.
Then came the match winning partnership from Mike Caruana (fifty
five runs not out) and Ronnie Sacco (sixty runs) which was worth a hundred and
eighteen runs. Marsa made their target with three balls to spare.
In the second game Melita had the upper hand against Overseas C.C It was the
highest run aggregate in a game so far in the league. Melita batted first and
scored a massive score of 166 runs. Tim Edwards scoring a brilliant one hundred
and one runs not out. He scored ten fours and a six along the way.
The Overseas chased well and fell short by nineteen runs. Stuart Lloyd scoring
eighty nine runs not out including twelve fours and a six. Melita won their
second game of the tournament.
Overseas C.C played against Krishna C.C on Sunday. Overseas batted first and
totalled 110 runs. Justin Barlogio top scoring with fifty one runs not out and
Stuart Lloyd twenty four runs from the total. For Krishna Sam Dhandapani was
the main wicket taker with two. Krishna chased
down the runs within thirteen overs. Alan Kyle top scoring with fifty runs not
out and Malcolm Crab thirty two runs not out.
The league ladder after all teams have played five games; Marsa C.C 32 points,
Krishna C.C 24 points, Melita C.C 18 points and Overseas C.C 9 points.
Marsa C.C will play against two touring teams, Wincanton C.C on
Friday at 16:00 CET and St. Annes on
Sunday at 10:30 CET.
