The much coveted Horse Racing ‘Big Cup’ – known
as It-Tazza l-Kbira – whose revival
was made possible by HSBC was won by Swedish Hudson Blue driven by Ivan
Bilocca. This moment of victory was a comeback for John Briffa, the owner of
the 12-year Hudson Blue who way back in 1976, had actually won the same trophy
as driver of the horse Alcyon.
The runners-up of the 2,140 m Autostart two lap
race were 11-year French James d’Iton driven by Noel Baldacchino in 2nd
place; 12-year Swedish Pilot Kloster driven by Charles Camilleri in 3rd
place; and 14-year French Hans de Landiers driven by James Carabott in 4th
place.
The prize-given ceremony was carried out by
Parliamentary Secretary for Youth and Sport Clyde Puli, Malta Racing Club’s
Secretary General Anthony De Bono and HSBC’s Head of Marketing Brian Tortell.
“HSBC
has supported the Malta Racing Club in reviving the long-standing tradition of
the Big Cup, which has proved to be so popular and prestigious with the
enthusiastic followers of the sport,” said HSBC’s Head of Marketing Brian
Tortell.
On behalf of the drivers and supporters of the
sport, Mr De Bono thanked HSBC for providing the necessary financial support.
“Supporting It-Tazza l-Kbira confirms
the HSBC’s commitment to back up initiatives and traditions that are meaningful
to the community and live up to our achievements to attract top international
players and compete on renowned racing tracks,” he said.
