Cricket: Krishna obtain easy victory against Overseas

Marsa won against Melita, while Overseas were
subdued by Krishna in the second match of the
summer Cricket League on Saturday. All
games are played at the Marsa Cricket Ground which is part of the Marsa Sports
Club.
Marsa won the toss and elected to bat
first. Mike Caruana was the first wicket to fall being brilliantly caught by
Tim Edwards who had to run in a couple of meters and lunged forward to catch
the ball inches from the ground. Caruana scored ten runs. Sarfraz Ali was next
to go scoring eight runs and Chris Naudi soon followed scoring twelve runs from
nine balls. Ronnie Sacco (thirty nine runs not out) and John Grima (thirty two
runs not out) batted through till the end of the innings. The Marsa side
totaled a mere 114 runs. For Melita Martin Llewellyn bowled one of the best
bowling spells one will see in a twenty twenty game. He took two wickets for
fourteen runs from five overs.
Melita opened with Tim Edwards and Frank
Spiteri. Edwards was first to go being given l.bw for eleven runs.
The Marsa teams hope rose when Dave Newton
bowled Spiteri for fourteen runs. Andy
Lenard made sixteen runs and an impressive knock from Stephen Blythe who made
thirty runs had the Marsa team ratled. After Blythe was stumped The Marsa team
were able to control the game and ended up winners by 10 runs. Mike Caruana was
the main wicket taker with three for the Marsa side. The Marsa side earned
seven points from the win while Melita are yet to start their account.
In the Second game Overseas batted first
and also totaled a score of 114 runs. The top scorer being Stuart Lloyd with 64
runs. Being that the Marsa team had won in the first game, the Overseas side
were optimistic about winning. They were overjoyed when joy Ghoseroy was out
for a duck. Sam Dhandapani (fifty five runs) had other ideas and guided his
team to a fairly easy victory in which the required score was made in the
sixteenth over. Krishna earned seven points
for the win.
Marsa will face two returning touring
teams, Sinsen CC from Norway
on Wednesday and Friday. The matches will kick off at 10:30 CET and 16:30 CET
respectively. Marsa will also face Old
Pauline C.C. on Saturday at 10:30 CET.
